An insider source has revealed that the current extension on expired Visas & Residence permits, which is lasting until June 30th, 2025, will be now extended until December of 2025.
These extensions were made in order to help curb the enormous backlog of aprox. 400,000 pending Visas and Permits which has plagued AIMA, Agência para a Integração Migrações e Asilo, – the immigration service of Portugal.
This backlog rapidly began during lockdowns and the sudden dissolution of former SEF, Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras, the former entity which was managing Portugals immigration.
This extension will be helpful for all those under the pressure of time and worried about the future of their validity in Portugal.
