Heads up: parts of Lagos will have no tap water for a few hours on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week (4–6 November). The Câmara Municipal de Lagos says the cuts are for maintenance and improvement works on the public water supply network. Here’s where and when, plus how to get through it without a sink full of dishes and a dry kettle.
Water cut schedule: 4–6 November 2026
Street and area names are kept in Portuguese so they match what you’ll see on signs and in Google Maps, with a short English note where it helps.
| Day | Time (no water) | Affected streets and areas |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday 4 November | 09:00–15:00 | Estrada da Meia Praia (from the junction with Rua Jorge de Sena); Rua Jorge de Sena; Urbanização Pérola do Oceano (the Pérola do Oceano housing estate); Bairro 25 de Abril (the 25 de Abril neighbourhood); Rua Andorinha do Mar / Maranhão |
| Thursday 5 November | 09:00–17:00 | Chinicato; Sítio do Pinheiral (the Pinheiral area); Rua Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos; Rua São Pedro do Pulgão; Beco São João do Pulgão (São João do Pulgão lane) |
| Friday 6 November | 09:00–15:00 | Sítio da Alfarrobeira / Eiras Velhas and the EM 539 (municipal road 539), in the parish of Odiáxere |
In short: Wednesday hits the Meia Praia road side of town, Thursday is Chinicato and the Pulgão area (and it’s the longest cut, eight hours), and Friday is out in Odiáxere. If your street isn’t listed, you shouldn’t be affected, but if you’re on the edge of one of these zones, plan as if you are.
Schedules like this can change at short notice, and works sometimes run over. Check the Câmara Municipal de Lagos news page before the day for any update.
Before the cut
- Store some water the night before. Fill a few bottles or a jug for drinking and cooking, and a bucket or a pot for flushing the toilet. A full kettle helps too.
- Get the chores done early. Shower, run the dishwasher and do the laundry before 09:00, or leave them until the evening.
- Working from home? Six or eight hours without water is a good day to work from a café or a coworking space instead. Here’s our up-to-date list of coworking spaces in Lagos.
- Renting or on Airbnb? Your host may not have told you. Send them a quick message so they know you know, and ask if the building has its own tank.
During the cut
- Keep your taps closed. It’s easy to open a tap, get nothing and forget about it. When the water comes back you’ll have a running tap, or a flood if the plug is in.
- Don’t start the washing machine or dishwasher if you’re not sure the water is back. They can stall mid-cycle.
- If you have a gas water heater (esquentador), it won’t light without water flow. That’s normal, not a fault.
When the water comes back
- Run the cold tap for a minute or two before you drink from it or use it for cooking. After works on the network you may get air spluttering out of the pipes, or water that looks cloudy or a bit brown at first. It should clear quickly.
- Run the cold tap before the hot one, so any sediment doesn’t end up in your water heater.
- If the water stays discoloured, the pressure stays low, or you still have nothing long after the scheduled end time, report it (contacts below).
Who to contact
Lagos’s tap water is run by the Câmara itself. According to its contacts page:
- Câmara call centre (water issues and faults on the network): 282 771 700, weekdays 09:00–17:00.
- Water and sewage emergency line (Piquete de Águas e Esgotos): 939 329 930 from 16:00 to 23:00. After 23:00, calls are passed to the Bombeiros Voluntários de Lagos (the local fire brigade).
Not confident on the phone in Portuguese? Ask in one of the Lagos WhatsApp groups or Facebook groups. Someone on your street has almost certainly already asked, and the groups are usually the fastest way to find out if the water’s back in your area.
A busy week for the weather too
The cuts finish on Friday, just before the rain is forecast to arrive at the weekend. If you’re sorting out the house this week anyway, have a look at our Lagos weather update for 7–15 November so you’re ready for that as well. New in town? Our guide to renting in Lagos is a good next read.
